Lauki or bottle gourd, unfortunately, falls into the latter category for most of us. Pumpkin vegetable is widely available in India during the summers. With a wide variety of beneficial properties for health, lauki is one of the most nutritious vegetables that exist at this time and not making the most of it would be a mistake. Since the vegetable is full of water, there is no inherent flavor to the vegetable, which is what makes you think it is tasteless and boring. But the truth is that this soft taste of lauki makes it a super versatile vegetable. You can mix it in shakes, cook it in soups, stews, curries and you can also use it to make halwa. Yes, you heard us! Lauki ka halwa is a popular dessert in the north. In the western part of the country, the delicacy is known as Doodhi ka halwa. It is prepared extensively during the fasting of Navratri. Lauki ka halwa could be an excellent way to consume all the excess raw lauki, and also make your children have summer vegetables without any problem.

 

Since lauki ka halwa consumes a lot of sugar, it can not be said to be one of the healthiest sweets for your diet. But it’s definitely a way to unite lauki lovers and detractors for once. After all, who does not like a halwa. The Indians especially share a unique love story for halwa. We have them in so many types; Halwa is one of the easiest desserts to prepare, which may have also led to the enormous popularity of the dish. Also, you can make anything work in a halwa, thanks to sugar, dried fruits, and khoya.

Lauki halwa is an easy recipe that you can try at home this summer. It does not require elaborate ingredients and is prepared in a matter of minutes.

Ingredients:

  • Lauki 1 cup
  • Khoya 1/2 cup
  • Sugar 1/2 cup
  • Ghee 2 tbsp
  • Mixed dry fruits 2 tbsp
  • Milk 3/4 cup
  • Cardamom powder 1/2 tsp

How To Make Lauki Ka Halwa:

In a frying pan, gently roast the khoya and set it aside.
2. Now take some ghee in a pan and heat. Once it is hot and has melted, put the grated lauki and mix well.
3. Add the milk and give your halwa a good mix. Leave to cook over low heat for 5-7 minutes.
4. Then, add cardamom powder, roasted khoya, dried fruit and mix well.

Your lauki halwa is ready. Serve hot and tell us how you liked it.
